High School graduation is an exciting time in your life where you are closing one chapter and opening another. Graduation signifies the close of 12+ years of education and allows you the freedom to choose the direction of your life afterwards. That important day in June is the start of your next chapter, whether that be to join the armed forces, attend college, travel the world or go to the workforce, it is a choice, your decision.
Photographing seniors is my all time favorite, it is a time where we can relax, have fun, talk, and most of all laugh. I love being able to create a session set-up on location that matches your personality and interests that reflects who you truly are as a person.
3 outfits, high heels, cobblestone walkways, colorful leaves and cowboy boots completed these senior’s session. Dominique’s session was completed last October, when the leaves were falling and the temperature was comfortable. We began her first session in Winchester at the Downtown Walking Mall and captured some glamorous high end business like photos. The second portion of her session was at the Virginia Arboretum where she climbed in trees, sat on benches, and rolled in leaves. These photos are amazing, Dominique is gorgeous inside and out, and this session helped me realize what I truly enjoy photographing.
DID YOU KNOW? Even though Senior Sessions are my favorite sessions to photograph, many people aren’t aware of how amazing and fun the pictures can be. Whether creating unique graduation announcements or hanging great pictures that express individuality, personalized senior pictures have great value. Here are some truths about senior photos:
1. You are NOT required to purchase the “Yearbook” photos or use “Yearbook” photos for graduation announcements.
Although you are required to take the generic “Yearbook” photos, you are not required to do anything with them, even purchase them. Graduation announcements or invitations and pictures to hang up in your house can be creative and unique, and are a way to document this monumental time! You are unique, your senior photos should reflect your unique personality!
2. You do not have to purchase everything through Jostens!
Yes, Jostens comes in does a presentation and sends home lots of information but you don’t want the same graduation announcements as someone else. Be you, be creative, and personal. Take your senior portrait photos and create a custom graduation announcement that will wow your family and friends. And don’t stop there, get albums, thank you cards, and graduation party photos to celebrate you and your accomplishment.
3. Senior Photos Sessions are for young ladies AND gentlemen!
Top-notch hair, makeup and wardrobe are of course fun parts of Senior Photo Sessions for girls. But high school graduation is equally as important and worth documenting for both girls and boys. Capturing guys in active-sports shots or candid shots of a genuine smile are priceless memories. And let’s be honest photo shoots can be fun for guys too!
4. The only time a photo session will be dedicated to YOU!
If you think about all the times you get photos taken, they mostly consist of a specific time in your life. Senior portraits are one of those times and the one and only time you will have a session dedicated to you and only you. The next time you will have photos taken will probably be engagement, then wedding, and eventually maternity, all of which will include another person. This is a right of passage, a session dedicated to showing you transition from being a child to an adult.
