Mountain Run Winery is a 130-year old family-operated farm in Culpeper, Virginia. James and Kathryn spoke highly of the beer, meads, and hard cider and can’t wait to serve it at their wedding in the Fall. These two met at a local community college where they found themselves in the same friend group. Quickly, James asked Kathryn out but she admits she didn’t give him a firm, “yes.” So he took it as a polite, “no.” However, Kathryn meant for it to be a “maybe.” For the next year, they just kept hanging out as friends until James asked Kathryn out again. But, this time she was better at saying, “yes!”

Kathryn had started to like James more than a friend by their first date so she was extra nervous. She was afraid to gamble with their friendship for fear of awkwardness if it didn’t work out. They knew one another pretty well by that point. She trusted that James wouldn’t make a mess out of whatever relationship was left if it didn’t work out, thankfully it did! They officially started “dating” on October 8th, 2009 which James engraved inside her engagement ring so she wouldn’t forget.

On October 6, 2024 James proposed. They attend the Renaissance Fair in Maryland annually. So it wasn’t weird when James got a group of friends together to go. As the doors opened, the group headed straight for the rear unlike the crowds. They gathered for a group photo and then James got down on one knee. Kathryn admits she should have been aware of the surprise but she wasn’t. The whole day was full of celebration as she showcased her emerald engagement ring!
