In high school, I was casually looking through bridal magazines one day when I came upon an Alfred Angelo gown that took my breath away. I got this feeling when I saw it that I knew it was going to be my dress but at the time I wasn’t even with TJ and getting married wasn’t even a thought on my mind. However, shortly after meeting TJ I knew I was going to marry him and he was going to be my husband so my mind went back to The Alfred Angelo Dress. Two and a half years in when TJ proposed I knew that I had to find that dress. Shortly, after we were engaged I stopped in at a Boutique, Bella Bridal, which unfortunately has closed since to “look” at gowns and see what the selection was. I am not one of those girls that has always dreamed about their day so I had nothing planned, which if you know me, isn’t like me at all. Everything in my life is planned! I had no idea what was in style or what I wanted other than to try on The Dress. Within minutes of being in Bella Bridal, to my surprise I stumbled upon, “The Dress!”
The Alfred Angelo dress I had only ever seen in a magazine (many years before) was on the rack and it was in my size, almost fate. Even though the ladies there encouraged me to try it on, I didn’t but I did schedule an appointment. I had to try it on and see if I felt the same feelings with it on that I felt years before when I saw it in a magazine. Somewhere deep down I knew it was the dress and the weeks I had to wait to go back were awful. All of these years had passed and the dress was still available and very much in style and just as beautiful in person. I made an appointment where almost all of my bridal party and both mom’s could attend, which made the wait a little longer.
The day finally came for my wedding down appointment and everyone knew we were pulling The Dress and then everyone convinced me to try on a few others. I had selected between 10-15 dresses to try on but I knew which one I wanted! I tried The Alfred Angelo dress on first, because let’s face it, I had waited this long, I couldn’t wait any longer. And…..
The Alfred Angelo dress was amazing! It fit like a glove and made me feel exactly how I wanted to feel. I cried and said “Yes to the dress!” However my bridal party and mom’s pushed me to try on other dresses even though I had already decided. I liked other dresses but I knew they weren’t “THE ONE!” We left the appointment knowing that was the dress. One day I decided to look on Craigs List for wedding items and happened to search for wedding dresses when I stumbled upon a women in Baltimore, MD selling her Alfred Angelo dress for 1/3 of the price! I couldn’t believe it, I contacted her immediately and we went, tried it on and purchased it. The dress was goregous, only wore once and they were still happily married, even though I am not super sticious! I had minor alterations done to the dress after getting in shape for the wedding it was perfect. It fit like a glove and I paraded it around the reception all evening! Even though it was big, it didn’t stop me from dancing the night away. I wish I could wear it again but I think I would get weird stares.
Isn’t this dress goregous? Do you have a dream dress or a dress you have had your eye on for a while? I think it was crazy how my dress story all came about and the fate, sort of like how I knew TJ would be my husband one day. I guess sometimes you just know!
Happy Thursday everyone, enjoy the photos of my wedding dress. Next week I will share the small details we included to make our wedding day personal and unique.
