Life Lesson | Turn the Music Up

Ever done something and immediately you knew that you shouldn’t have done it? On Tuesday I as distracted while driving, shame on me. I know it is dangerous. I drove straight into a curb! I don’t mean bumped it or scuffed my rim, I mean ran right into it like it was a head on collision. My front rim/tire took the brunt of the blow, my car flew up into the air and everything in the car went flying. Immediately I was upset with myself for doing something so stupid and dangerous but I also feared the worst. As I was trying to find somewhere to pull over I couldn’t help but let my mind wander as to the worst case scenario and what I would find when I got out of the car.

I pulled into a nearby fast food restaurant and parked under a light and got the courage to look and it was BAD!!! Both rims (front and back) were pretty damaged and I feared that they might be bent or broken. I feared that my tires were garbage and I would need 2 possibly 4 new tires (even though I just bought 4 tires in the beginning of the year). I worried about the damage underneath that I couldn’t see and how I was going to get this car home to figure all of this out. So I did what any girl would do, put on my emergency brake, popped the trunk, and dug for my spare. This girl was getting this car home one way or another because that is the only place I wanted to be at the time!

I changed my front tire and prayed my back tire was ok because a car only has one spare, which doesn’t make the most  sense in my book, when changes are what you hit in the front, you will hit in the back, but what do I know?! Changing my tire wasn’t the easiest, but I got accomplished putting my spare on all by myself (a little proud of myself for this). I let the jack down and find that my spare is flat, as if I hadn’t endured enough. I took the car to a nearby Sheetz and put air in the spare and got the car home after going 35 mph from Winchester.

Long story short and the moral, don’t get distracted and focus on what’s in front of you. I am thankful that I only hit a curb and not another vehicle or pedestrian. Slow down and enjoy life! After this very expensive lesson I will be setting office hours and responding in the evenings to emails and inquiries to de-stress and not allow myself to get into a situation like Tuesday. Learn from my mistake, turn up the music and enjoy the ride!
