Skyline Drive’s Dickey Ridge in the National Park is GORGEOUS for many reasons. Every season it brings many nature lovers, whether its the Fall foliage or the views. The week before Devon & RD’s engagement session Dickey Ridge was closed to host King Charles for a private tour.
Devon grabbed a chai latte and RD a vanilla latte from a DC coffee shop, Gregory’s for their first date. Then they headed to Planet Word, a museum about the history of language. The date was much longer than either expected or planned. It included a long walk after the museum and 2 more coffees! Devon recalls that RD was charming and sweet but above all she couldn’t get enough of his smile.
After 3 years of dating on a particularly hard week (a random Tuesday). Devon came home from work and fell into the usual routine – comfy clothes and putting stuff away. She was about to start dinner when RD had asked her if she could wait for just a little bit. She shrugged and said, “Sure,” and continued to bustle around the apartment doing various small chores.
When she came back into the kitchen, there on the counter lay two piping hot boxes of Bonchon chicken – the spicy recipe. One of RD and Devon’s favorite takeout meals to share together. RD turned to Devon with a big smile and said, “I know we’ve been talking a lot about getting married over the last few weeks.” Devon nodded, smiled, and agreed that they had. His grin widened as he asked, plain and simple, “So, will you marry me?” Devon couldn’t help it. She knew she was blushing when she practically whispered, “Yeah!”
Their love to explore National Parks and other historic NPS sites together and was the inspiration for their engagement session location at Dickey Ridge. Any time they travel they pay tribute to their first date. They always manage to find a local cafe where they can score a good breakfast, a decent chai, but, rarely, a good vanilla latte.
